Special Olympics Greater Manchester are thrilled to be welcoming Stockport Harriers to the our network of partners across the county!
Stockport Harriers, based at Woodbank Park Athletics Stadium, run athletics session for over 600 members with an age range between 6 and 80! Already they have had success in offering disability sport through the wheelchair racing and are now looking to develop brand new inclusive sessions, open to athletes with a learning disability.
Monir, a dedicated parent and volunteer of a Special Olympics Athlete, has been instrumental in getting these sessions up and running and has this to say:
“We will collaborate with local services within the community bringing people together, to give children and young people opportunities to be part of athletics and to be fully inclusive no matter what their gender, ethnicity, culture, religion, or whatever their ability. We will work together demonstrating equality and diversity, safeguarding keeping everyone safe and enjoying sports”
Sessions will be launching in June this year and we are super excited to get down to see the action and start welcoming so many athletes and volunteers into the Special Olympics Family!
